Very easy to use, very practical for folks with shoulder or back issues.

I have a supply of mesquite that needs splitting. There may be a harder wood to split than mesquite, but I have yet to encounter it. I could pound on a wedge HUNDREDS of times, and I am a big guy who lifts weights, and make no progress. I considered getting motorized splitter, but I was attracted by the mechanical simplicity of this device, and the fact it generates 12 tons of force, as opposed to 5 or so for most electric splitters. To make a long story short, this thing is awesome - splits mesquite rounds brilliantly, making a truly dramatic CRACK as this stubborn wood succumbs to the relentless pressure. Design is smart too - one of the handles moves the piston about a half-inch per pull - useful for snugging up the cut, and for separating it after the big CRACK. The other handle moves the piston about 1/8 or so, providing irresistible pressure. This is not fast, but it is lots of fun, very satisfying to use.

I am well pleased with the Torin Log Splitter, but very unhappy that it had a broken 2.48 inch wheel at delivery. Torin has advised their warehouse has no replacement wheels. I am 71 years old, severe back pain, and arthritis in a knee and hip, and need the replacement wheel in order to move the unit. Have contacted Amazon earlier today, and awaiting a response. If broken wheel issue is resolved, my review would be 5 star for the unit.

I've been using this splitter for a few months and it works really well. It can split logs much bigger than recommended and doesn't require great arm strength to use. Negatives - yes, the wheels are useless on dirt. But the bigger problem is, instead of using a threaded nut for the hydraulic fluid resevoir, they have a simple rubber plug, which for the life of me I cannot get off. If I really have to add fluid I'll have to cut it off and hope I can replace the plug. Maybe someone can tell me the secret to removing it. Even still positives outweigh negatives and I would buy it again.
